For San Francisco’s creative community, the annual Art Market held at the Fort Mason Center is the year’s main event. A two-year hiatus due to the COVID pandemic was a blow to artists, galleries, and patrons—which made the 2022 Art Market the most cherished yet. The weekend began early with an official proclamation from the City of San Francisco recognizing Art Market San Francisco for its tradition and contributions to the city.

Before the doors were opened for a limited preview on Thursday, April 21st, a line filled with eager attendees stretched through the Fort Mason parking lot. Over 75 established contemporary and modern art galleries exhibited works to the delight of collectors hungry to acquire new pieces at the long-awaited event.

Highlights included the Inner Sunset’s Marrow Gallery (which featured works by Hiroshi Sato), Miami’s Kubix Contemporary Art and its installation of Pablo Dona pieces, and San Francisco’s Electric Works booth of Dave Eggers drawings. There was no shortage of options for any taste, with everything from the whimsical to the revolutionary on display. It’s official—one of the city’s most revered gatherings is officially back.
